On 6 March 2024, we had the opportunity to publicly introduce H.I.V.E. – Human Interaction Visualization Engine at the Grasshopper UK User Group meeting, hosted at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London.

Organised by Simply Rhino, the evening brought together a full room of designers, engineers, students, and developers to share new tools, research, and workflows shaping the Grasshopper ecosystem. The energy in the room reflected what makes the community so valuable, open exchange, curiosity, and a willingness to push computational design forward.

During our session, we presented H.I.V.E., a socially driven pedestrian simulation plugin for Grasshopper. The talk focused on how social forces, attraction, repulsion, grouping, and spatial awareness, can be embedded directly into parametric workflows. Rather than treating people as abstract flow rates or static occupancy numbers, we demonstrated how behaviour-driven agents can inform spatial layout, circulation logic, and early-stage design decisions.

It was the first time the project had been shared publicly, and the discussion that followed was both thoughtful and encouraging. Presenting within a programme that also explored Rhino updates, advanced engineering workflows, and material research positioned H.I.V.E. within a broader culture of experimentation and applied innovation.

We’re grateful to the organisers and attendees for the warm reception. This event marks an important step in the journey of H.I.V.E., and we’re excited to continue developing tools that help designers integrate human behaviour into generative design processes.
